Is social media bad or good ?
Definition :
Social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people to create, share or
exchange information, ideas, and pictures, videos in virtual communities and
networks. It makes our life easier and faster in some ways.
History : 1997 The Birth of Social Media
In 1997 was social media's date of birth. The first social media that came in
handy was a website called 'Six Degrees', and it was named after the 'six
degrees of separation' theory that lasted from 1997 to 2001. Six Degrees
basically allowed users to create a profile and friend other users. It even
allowed those who didn't register as users to confirm friendships, in which it
helped connecting few people in this way.
Social
Media Today: Social media today consists thousands of platforms, all serving
the same – yet slightly different purpose. And of course, some social media
platforms are more popular than others, even the less-popular ones are used by
groups of people that could best suits them or even 'define' them.
For example: Instagram works best with people who are excellent with
photographing skills, 70 million photos and videos are uploaded to Instagram
every single day, and other platforms such as Twitter is perfect for those who
communicate in short bursts of information. As mentioned, businesses are using
social media to promote their products and services in a brand new way, which
makes social media a form of communication that literally anyone and everyone
has a purpose at the end.

Advantage and disadvantage
The biggest advantage of social media is its power to connect people. It has
become a popular way for family and friends who live far away from one another
(sometimes internationally) to keep up with what is going on in each other’s
lives, without the expensive cost of long-distance calling. Another
advantage is Information Spreads Incredibly Fast
Breaking news and other important information can spread like wildfire on
social media sites. Important things like recalls, storm information, or
missing children are all communicated and taken seriously very quickly.
On the other hand, social media has disadvantage
The Addiction Is Real
One of the biggest problems with the social media craze is that people are
becoming more and more addicted to using it. It is the number one time waster
at work, in school, and at home. All of this has caused people to have literal
withdraws from their social networks.
Another disadvantage of social media is some people may use a fake profile
- just because they say they are 15 years old does not mean that is true. Be
careful when you choose to be friends with someone you have never met in real life.
The UAE government created some program applications to make it faster and easier to stay in contact with the public throughout the day. These programs include police application, Abu Dubai government application, etc.As The National reported, the social media brainstorming project announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, more than 82,000 ideas from the public and led to concrete changes in the way the country’s education and health sectors operate.
I always use government
applications to finish what I want at any time without having to go straight to
the main department which is a good thing especially with people that live far
from the city .
Conclusion
Social media has made everyone's life easier in many different ways, and of
course like anything else, there are some advantages and disadvantage of social
media. Using it wisely is the only way to stay out of trouble and gathering
some useful information is all you need.
